OPTIONAL HARDWARE

eDSB-III

The eDSB-III allows active load balancing in residential buildings, both in locations with and without their own energy production, e.g., using PV panels. The main function is to prevent the main MCB from tripping due to one or more EV’s charging.

It consists of a three-phase energy measurement device with three split coils fixed to it, which can conveniently be clipped around the incoming line wire of your electrical installation. The measurement device will communicate with the charging station via Modbus.

Combined with the Enovates’ user app*, you can even decide to only charge when your PV-panels are generating enough electricity, or to limit the allowed charging based on total power consumption of the house instead of just setting a current limit (valid from firmware version 2.10 onwards).

*Please note that for specific grid types, limitations may apply

Product brief

Easy to install on every grid installation on DIN rail with split coil

Real time bi-directional energy flow detection allowing for optimal energy monitoring

Obtain ultimate green e-mobility in combination with Enovates chargers

Minimize the grid usage to save on electricity costs

Best suited solution in case of 3×230 VAC (“delta”) grid type without N

Application

Typical usage is a single family home with one standalone charging station.

It is possible to use it in a small charging hub as well, up to 80A. The eDSB-III will then be connected to the master, who uses this as an input for load balancing within the charging hub.

The eDSB-III puts the measurement information into Modbus registers, which can then be requested by the charging station. There, the data is used to decide how much current an EV may receive so the main MCB does not trip. This allows for example that during the night, when house consumption is low, the EV gets most of the energy, while at the time one os cooking, the EV gets only a limited amount of energy.

The eDSB-III is four modules wide (DIN 43880) and mounted in the electrical cabinet. It should preferably be connected via an STP cable to the charging station.

The table below gives an overview of the possible combinations between grid type, charging station connection and whether only current limiting is possible (= protecting the main MCB from tripping) or if power limiting is possible as well (= optimizing energy usage).

Grid type = three phase STAR (WYE)
Charging station connection = single phase
Current Limit: Yes
Power limit: Yes
Grid type = three phase STAR (WYE)

Grid type = three phase DELTA
Charging station connection = single phase

(*) in a 3×230 grid, the highest measured installation current is considered to determine the allowable charger current as it is not known between which lines the charger is installed, this might result in less than maximal available current for the charger

Compatible products

The eDSB-III can be combined with the Single WallboxPRO series, Trapezium Compact and Trapezium XL.
