OPTIONAL HARDWARE
eDPB
The eDPB allows active load balancing in residential buildings, both in locations with and without their own energy production, e.g., using PV panels. The main function is to prevent the main MCB from tripping due to the EV charging.
It is a small, DIN rail mountable device that receives data from the smart meter via the P1 port.
Combined with the Enovates’ user app*, you can even decide to only charge when your PV-panels are generating enough electricity, or to limit the allowed charging based on total power consumption of the house instead of just setting a current limit (valid from firmware version 2.10 onwards).
*Please note that for specific grid types, limitations may apply
Product brief
Easy to install on household grid installations on DIN rail, communicating via the P1 interface of the digital meter.
Real time bi-directional energy flow detection allowing for optimal energy monitoring
Obtain ultimate green e-mobility in combination with the Enovates user app.
Minimize the grid usage to save on electricity costs
Application
Typical usage is a single family home with one standalone charging station.
It is possible to use it in a small charging hub as well. The eDPB will then be connected to the master, who uses this as an input for load balancing within the charging hub.
The eDPB puts the P1 information into Modbus registers, which can then be requested by the charging station. There, the data is used to decide how much current an EV may receive so the main MCB does not trip. This allows for example that during the night, when house consumption is low, the EV gets most of the energy, while at the time one os cooking, the EV gets only a limited amount of energy.
The eDPB is one module wide (DIN 43880) and mounted in the electrical cabinet. It should preferably be connected via an armored twisted pair cable with a drain wire to the charging station.
The table below gives an overview of the possible combinations between grid type, charging station connection and whether only current limiting is possible (= protecting the main MCB from tripping) or if power limiting is possible as well (= optimizing energy usage).
Grid type = three phase STAR (WYE)
Charging station connection = single phase | Current Limit: Yes
Power limit: Yes |
Grid type = three phase STAR (WYE)
Charging station connection = three phase | Current Limit: Yes
Power limit: Yes |
Grid type = three phase DELTA
Charging station connection = single phase | Current Limit: Yes (*)
Power limit: Yes (*) |
Grid type = single phase
Charging station connection = single phase | Current Limit: Yes
Power limit: Yes |
(*) Possible but suboptimal when injecting into the grid, because only active powers are reported by a P1 based smart meter.

Compatible products
The eDPB can be combined with the Single Wallbox, PRO series, Trapezium Compact and Trapezium XL.
It can be connected with digital meters using the P1 protocol conform DSMR4.2 or higher (NL) and eMUCS based on the before mentioned DSMR (BE).
