Cranfield, UK – October 10th 2024 – Nissan, a global leader in electric vehicles, and Enovates, a pioneer in V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) technology, have partnered to demonstrate the transformative potential of AC V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technology in a real-world Field Operating Test (FOT) in the United Kingdom. This groundbreaking initiative highlights the synergy between Nissan’s innovative electric vehicle (EV) technology and Enovates’ cutting-edge V2G solutions, expanding the frontiers of energy management and mobility.
Additionally, we want to emphasize that we are the first party, together with Nissan, to have obtained certification for the UK and are therefore authorized to operate in this market.
Field Operating Test: A Leap Toward a Sustainable Future
The Field Operating Test, conducted across multiple UK sites, has brought together Nissan’s advanced EVs and Enovates’ newly certified AC V2X chargers to explore the practical application of bidirectional charging and energy sharing. The test focuses on enhancing grid stability, optimizing energy costs for users, and reducing the carbon footprint by harnessing stored energy from EVs. The field test aims to demonstrate the advantages of seamless integration between electric vehicles and energy networks, further solidifying the role of EVs in the future of energy systems.
Enovates: A Legacy of Pioneering V2G Solutions
Enovates has been at the forefront of V2G technology since 2018, when it developed the world’s first CHAdeMO DC V2G chargers to achieve certification. With years of experience and innovation, Enovates now shifts its focus to the development of AC V2X chargers, specially designed to meet the needs of modern EV users and grid systems. AC V2G technology provides a more accessible and cost-effective solution for bidirectional charging, allowing users to return electricity to the grid or power their homes, while supporting renewable energy sources.
Enovates’ AC V2X chargers, certified for use with Nissan’s electric vehicles, offer a robust and reliable solution for both residential and commercial settings, enabling consumers to take part in energy trading and power sharing initiatives with ease.
Customer Clinic: Engaging Real-World Users
In conjunction with the field test, a Customer Clinic was held to engage with Nissan EV owners, energy stakeholders, and technology enthusiasts. The clinic offered hands-on demonstrations of the AC V2X chargers in real-world scenarios, providing valuable feedback on user experience, technology performance, and the potential impact of V2X systems on everyday life. Participants were given the opportunity to understand the tangible benefits of V2X technology, from reducing energy costs to increasing energy independence through smart, bi-directional charging.
AC V2X: Revolutionizing the Future of Mobility and Energy
AC V2X technology represents a new frontier in energy management, allowing EVs to function not just as a means of transportation but as integral parts of the energy ecosystem. By enabling vehicles to both store and return energy to the grid, AC V2X paves the way for smarter, greener energy consumption, reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources and supporting a more resilient energy infrastructure.
“Enovates is proud to partner with Nissan for the Field Operation Test to demonstrate the real-world benefits of AC V2X technology,” said Bart Vereecke, CEO Enovates. “This Field Operating Test marks an important step in creating a sustainable, interconnected energy future where electric vehicles play a central role in both mobility and energy solutions.”
“Enovates has always been committed to pushing the boundaries of V2G technology, and we are excited to bring our expertise in AC charging to this project,” added Stijn Vispoel, R&D Manager. “Our certified AC V2G chargers represent the next generation of energy technology, offering accessible, efficient, and smart solutions for the future of transportation and energy.”
